Student Blog Series #1 – An Inspired Choice

I was 15 years old when my Dad turned to me and said: “So son what do you want to do with your life?” That was when it struck me that I had absolutely no idea.

I was spending my days working towards my exams and the nights hanging out with friends. Not a thought had entered my head about what I could do when I finished my education.

Luckily for me I bumped into my best friend’s brother, Terry, a few days later. We got chatting about careers and he told me that he had joined the police force a year earlier and loved every minute of it. This got me thinking. Could I possibly create a successful career in the Canadian Police Force?

I played soccer since I was eight years old so I knew I was physically fit and my grades at school were generally pretty good too. Three years after that conversation with Terry I applied to join the police. I took some exams and before long I was in!

Now 6 months on I know that moment as a 15 year old was the best decision I could have ever made. I love my job and the beauty of police work is that you are always learning.
