Law Enforcements Crackdown on Cell Phones and Seatbelts

October 6, 2009

This October marks a special month for law enforcements in the Ontario and Manitoba provinces to alert citizens about safe driving.

A ban on cellphones and other hand-held devices will take effect for all Ontario drivers on October 26. This includes any sort of communication and entertainment devices. However, you will still be allowed to use your cellphone to make 911 emergency calls. This new law will not have any affect on emergency response personnel such as police officers, firefighters and paramedics.

During the month of October, RCMP across Manitoba will begin a one-month long traffic enforcement campaign that will specifically target drivers and passengers who are not wearing seatbelts. They will be making sure that all children are properly restrained using seatbelts inside the vehicles.
