OPP Celebrating Its 100th Anniversary In Style

Policing is no easy task, and it certainly wasn’t easier a century ago. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the OPP since its establishment in 1909 and they plan to celebrate and remember their early predecessors in a very special way.
In this upcoming February, two OPP officers will travel through five communities in the Northern Canadian region on a 20 day adventure to experience firsthand what it is like to be a police constable during the early 1900’s. This includes the prohibition of technology and other luxurious items that we often take for granted in today’s world. These two brave officers will be traveling by dogsled, snowshoe and train. Furthermore, they will be wearing replicas of the traditional police uniforms worn during that time period.
The Police Ready team salutes these two officers to a safe and memorable journey. Their journey is a great reminder for us to appreciate the time and work that police officers have contributed to serve and protect the community and this dedication is certainly something that does not diminish over time. It only goes to show the extra effort that earlier police officers have to put in – they have to battle the cold Canadian climate in addition to their effort to battle crimes.
