Cardiovascular Training

January 23, 2009

Before attempting your physical exams, be sure to get yourself in shape. You can start by beginning cardiovascular training.

Cardiovascular fitness is defined as the ability for your body to deliver oxygen and blood to your muscles. So improving your cardiovascular fitness will let your muscles work for longer periods of time. The only real way to do this is through cardiovascular training. Much of your physical tests rely on your cardiovascular fitness so it is a good idea to get started early.

How much cardio training do I need?

Your goals will determine the amount of cardiovascular training you need.

  • If you are trying to lose weight
    • you need to do more training than if you wish to lose weight
    • 3-5 times per week for about 20 to 40 minutes should be adequate
  • If you are trying to gain weight and muscle
    • this goal can be achived easier without doing cardio, however, you will still maintain the health benefits without much effort on your weight gain if you do light cardio (about 20 minutes) twice aweek
  • If you wish to improve your cardiovascular fitness in general, 3-4 times per week with around 20 minutes per session should show good results
